Forest School
Forest School at Cashes Green is (as of January 2025) run by Mr Atkinson and supported by Mrs Leach and class TAs. Each term, two classes take it in turns to enjoy Forest School sessions in our outdoor area.
'Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting.' Forest School Association, https://forestschoolassociation.org/what-is-forest-school/
Forest School is run on 6 central principles: Nature, Risk, Long-term, Holistic development, Community and Leadership. Children are allowed to play, take supported risks, practise a variety of skills and inspired to love and respect the natural world around them as part of sessions.
Here are some of the activities we have done this year:
Year 3
Year 3 had a fantastic time playing in the Forest School area! They used tools to make things like boats, practised lighting fires and had fun doing lots of nature crafting and water play!
Year 4
Year 4 had fun making leaf-print flags, whittling tent pegs, making rivers with the uttering, lighting fires and crafting with different natural materials! They made cinnamon toasted apples, chocolate milkshakes and freshly picked rhubarb crumble with custard!
