Year 4
To contact Mr Atkinson, please email latkinson@cashesgreen-pri.gloucs.sch.uk
Reading Record day is a Thursday. Children can write what they have read but this must still be signed by an adult please.
In Year 4 we will focus lots on Times Tables! You can support your child by practising Times Tables at home. By the end of Year 4, children are required to know all their tables up to 12X12 and will have a formal test in June. Here are some websites you can use to help.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
https://www.timestables.co.uk/ - A wide range of games and recall opportunities
https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check
We use the mathsframe website for our test at school as this simulates the speed recall required for the end of year test.
PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD HAS A PAIR OF WELLIES IN SCHOOL EVERY DAY WHICH THEY CAN WEAR ON THE FIELD - WE WILL BE USING IT IN ALL WEATHER. These should be named and placed on the Y4 welly rack outside.
Monday 3rd March 2025
We had a busy few weeks back in the classroom! Well done to all the children for putting together a fantastic sharing assembly in record time! Thank you to everyone who came to support us. We started to read our new book, The Abominabls and wrote missing posters for Lady Agatha, who was kidnapped from a mountain base camp high in the Himalayas. In Science, we looked at different animals' skulls and used clues about their teeth to decide what diet they may have had.
Please note, PE will be on a Monday this term as we have Dance.

We've had a great couple of weeks to finish our term! We absolutely loved our visit to Techniquest - hopefully you've been able to see some of the pictures of different activities on the Facebook page or last week's Newsletter. This week, we have worked hard to finish our science learning. We have been investigating teeth and looking at how different liquids could damage them. We started with an experiment using vinegar to see what would happen to teeth (egg shells) if it were left overnight - we found the shell had dissolved! We then tested out different drinks, including coke, lemonade, orange juice and energy drink to see how they would affect egg shells. Have a look at the results below!
Please note PE day will be changing to a Monday after Half Term.
Monday 27th January 2025
Another busy couple of weeks has seen Year 4 dive into an exciting DT project! We have been using our knowledge of electrical circuits to make electric games. We disassembled sets of Operation to see how they work and had a go at making replicas of the world's first electronic board game - Electra - which is pictured below. We've got an exciting week coming up with our trip to Techniquest on Friday. In English, we have been writing present tense reports all about the digestive system and in Maths lessons we have been learning different methods for multiplication and division.

In English lessons, we have been learning about present tense reports and have started to write about the digestive system.
We have also started work on our DT project - making an electronic game. We have been researching the first board game using electricity and will be making some over the next week.

We will be coming back to our Geography learning in a few weeks to begin our study on rivers. We've had an action packed couple of weeks in Year 4! On Friday last week, we were visited by Aedmond the Saxon! He delivered a fantastic workshop in which we learned about archaeology, battle tactics and Saxon life.
This week, we started our Forest School sessions where we explored the Forest School area, made conker people and conker cars and enjoyed crumpets over the fire.
Thank you to everyone who came to our King Arthur celebration assembly! We've loved rehearsing and performing the play and hope you enjoyed the show!
Monday 7th October 2024
We've had a really busy start to life in Year 4! We have been learning about sound in Science lessons. Check out the photographs of our string telephones that we made in class. We found out the sound travels as a vibration through the string so we could send a message. Mr Atkinson even talked to Mrs Taylor by making an extra long telephone that reached into Year 5! We have been enjoying our History topic about the Anglo-Saxons. We will be joined by an Anglo-Saxon man on Friday 11th October who will deliver a fantastic workshop in school.
An addition to your diary - Mr Atkinson and Mr Spring will be starting Forest School sessions with the children on Thursdays starting on the 17th October. Please ensure your child has wellies or walking boots and a warm coat in school for these days. You can also provide a change of clothes if you wish (jogging bottoms, waterproof trousers etc) but this is not essential. Please contact Mr A for more information.
Wednesday 18th September 2024

What a fantastic start to the year we have had! The class has done a fantastic job at settling into Year 4 and has produced some super work already! In Science, we have been exploring sound and made slo-mo videos to show the vibrations caused by hitting a drum or strumming an elastic band. In History lessons, we have been exploring the aftermath of the Roman Empire and the emergence of the Anglo-Saxons in Britain. We have invited an Anglo-Saxon into school to deliver a workshop in a few weeks' time (Friday 11th October)!
